A Little Life - Hanya Yanagihara

A Little Life was an almost-perfect novel for me. Rarely do books that have the rare combination of a plot you dive into immediately, characters you can't seem to forget, and a story that's new and beautiful, but Yanagihara's second book has all three. The story follows four friends in possibly-modern New York (the time frame is left purposefully ambiguous) who meet in college and progress through life uncovering little by little the harrowing past of one of their own, Jude.

"And so I try to be kind to everything I see, and in everything I see, I see him."
